Middle School Dress Code
CMCS Middle School students are not required to wear uniforms (though certainly welcome to), but should adhere to the following Dress Code guidelines.
Note: Teachers and staff have discretion to deem any clothing that is disruptive to the educational process unacceptable or inappropriate. This includes accessories, jewelry and make-up.
Overall
- No clothing that has offensive or inappropriate language or symbols
- No garments with slits, holes or tears
- No clothing that is see-through or exposes the back, abdomen, sides, or midriff when the scholar raises his/her arms to shoulder height
- Undergarments shall not be exposed at any time
- Earrings should be at a length that will not present a safety hazard
- Hats may be worn outside and should be removed when entering the building
- No sunglasses inside
- Appropriate PE attire should be worn on PE days
Bottoms
- Shorts, pants, skirts, and skorts should be worn at waist level or above the hips; should reach the tip of the thumb when standing up and hands are held straight down the sides; the back or belly should not show
- Leggings or tights can be worn, but NOT in lieu of pants
Tops
- No spaghetti straps
- Buttoned shirts should be worn buttoned to the top two buttons
Dresses
- Dresses must reach the fingertips when standing up and hands are held straight down the sides
Shoes and Socks
- Closed-toe shoes are required (tennis shoes are a good option for active scholars)
- Tennis shoes must be worn for PE days
- Slippers or indoor shoes are acceptable inside the classroom
- Ankle or knee-high socks are acceptable, but not socks that go above the knee
- Leggings or tights with a skirt, skort, dress or shorts are acceptable, NOT worn by themselves
- Bare feet are not permitted in classrooms for safety and health reasons
