Admissions
We aim to provide a fair and open system of access to Coastal Montessori Charter School (CMCS), a FREE public Montessori school in Georgetown County.
Coastal Montessori Charter School (CMCS) will admit children 1st through 8th grade who are eligible to attend school in the Georgetown County School District subject to space limitations, and based on grade levels served. There is no test required for admission and there is no tuition.

An Open Enrollment period starts each fall and ends in mid-December. Application for Enrollment Consideration forms are accepted all year long. An application received after the open enrollment deadline will not be entered in the January public lottery, but will be placed on the waiting list in the order in which it is received.
Forms are also available at the following locations:
- CMCS office at 111 Old Plantation Dr., Pawleys Island, SC 29585
Return Application for Enrollment Consideration forms:
- by mail to the CMCS office at 111 Old Plantation Dr., Pawleys Island, 29585;
- by fax at 843-235-0418; or
- via email to our office manager Kristy Harbaugh at kharbaugh@coastalmontessoricharter.org
Lottery
If the number of applicants exceeds the number of openings, selections are made by public lottery in January in accordance with SC Charter School law. Lottery attendance is not required for admission.
Rolling Admissions Policy
In addition to the yearly Open Enrollment period, Coastal Montessori Charter School has a rolling admissions policy. This means that CMCS welcomes application forms year-round. Families are made aware if spots are available. If not, students are placed on a waiting list.
New Enrollment Packet
Once a student is admitted, a New Student Enrollment Packet must be filled out in its entirety with 14 calendar days of receipt or the spot will be forfeited. This packet will be emailed to you when your child is offered a spot at Coastal Montessori Charter School. It may be printed and filled out at home and returned via US mail, email or fax.
Communications
As your child is enrolled, your active email address will be added to our database so you can receive CMCS Weekly Updates and News Flashes, our primary means of communication. If you would prefer printed copies sent home with your child, contact our Office Manager Ms. Kristy Harbaugh or call our office at 843-235-0413. Anyone can sign up to receive our eblasts by clicking the Get Our Newsletter button at the top of every page on this website.
Registration and Start of School
Just before school starts in August, CMCS holds Registration Days where families come in to register new and returning students. This must be done every year for every student.
More detailed information on everything you need to know before the start of school (i.e.: registration dates, uniforms, open houses, classroom supply lists, etc.) is communicated via eblasts, on our website and Facebook page.
Existing CMCS Families
Currently enrolled students don’t need to reapply during Open Enrollment. However, parents of siblings getting ready to enter CMCS DO need to submit an Application for Enrollment Consideration for their rising 1st grader, even though our charter allows for sibling preference.
Questions
Please feel free to contact our office manager Kristy Harbaugh at 843-235-0413 if you have any questions at all about CMCS admissions or how to apply.
