At the very heart of Montessori education is the firm belief that children are naturally driven to learn.

Montessori is an international teaching method used for more than 100 years in countries around the world based on decades of scientific research by Italian physician Dr. Maria Montessori. Research shows that children who receive a Montessori education excel not only academically, but socially as well. Montessori teaches independence, problem-solving, responsibility, social graces, and good citizenship. It honors and cultivates each child’s natural love of learning.

Most importantly, Montessori kids love school!

What makes Montessori different?

  • Students work at their own pace, advancing through the curriculum only when they are ready and have truly mastered a skill or concept.
  • Montessori teachers serve as guides and are experts at assisting children in discovering their own strengths.
  • Classrooms are specially designed to foster independence, with freedom of movement, yet structure and order in a beautiful setting we call the “Prepared Environment.”
  • Mixed-age classrooms (three year groupings) build strong social skills by allowing students to interact with peers that are both younger and older than them, while teaching children to respect and help one another. It also allows a teacher to remain with a student for several years and really get to know her strengths and motivations.
  • A global perspective built into the curriculum encourages peace and builds conflict resolution skills in students.  Dr. Montessori spent her life advocating for children and peace and her humanitarian efforts resulted in three Nobel Peace Prize nominations.
