Weekly Update

Good evening families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of friends, family, and relaxation. This week, we have a variety of things going on in and out of the school day. We will resume our weekly Wordly Wise test this Thursday. This means that the students will have to double up and complete two sections of the homework one evening to be ready for their test on Thursday.
On Thursday evening, we will by holding our Community Open House from 6-7:30 p.m. The CMCS staff will be giving demonstrations, answering questions, and showing what makes the Montessori method unique. I hope you will come and see all the elements of Montessori, especially if you have questions about the middle school program as a next step for your student. This event is open to the public, so feel free to invite anyone who would like to come see and learn about our school.
This Friday, we will be hosting our MMUN Poster Session at 8:15 a.m. Your child will be sharing what they have learned about their MMUN country. We invite any family member who would like to see the presentations to come. On the same day, we will be holding the International Food Fair at 11:30 a.m. Each student will prepare a dish from their country to share with all of Upper Elementary. The servings will be sample size, so there is no need prepare for more than 20 people. I must have a copy of your child’s recipe by Monday, November 27th in order to let the families of children with allergies or other health issue know what is being served. Your child may wear formal free dress on this day for presentations or their uniform.
This year, our school had decided to participate in the Scripts Spelling Bee. This is a national competition and one student from our school will go on to compete in the local Spelling Bee competition. Participation in the Spelling Bee is voluntary, and no child will be forced. However, I am encouraging everyone to try!
Also, I wanted to share some general Spelling Bee information with you. Our classroom Bee will be December 13th and we will send our classroom champ to the All-School Bee on January 12Parents can set-up their free account by going to www.spellingbee.com. Under the “Parents and Students” tab click on “Word Club.” This will enable you to find rules and word lists if you want to practice from home.
Here is the meal/milk order for the week of December 4th.
