SO fortunate! Irma sidestepped us here in Pawleys, and we are so thankful. For a short three-day week, our middle schoolers really packed in a ton of educational activities! First, we took care of revising our initial reactions to short pieces of literature, then we researched and polished our presentations for the Rock Star projects and the Habits of Mind components of an effective lesson. We know that we have set the bar extremely high for these young minds, but they have risen to the challenge, worked together with new people, and produced quality lessons/skits that were both entertaining and informative. We have ALL learned new things these past few days! Please ask your children what kinds of activities and presentations they have been doing. You will be impressed as we teachers were! Keep up the great work, everyone!
Also on the horizon for October:
October 5-6: Rescheduled Huntington Beach overnight camping trip
October 24: Field experience for ELA and Social World: Experience a live performance of To Kill A Mockingbird play at the Dock Street Theater in Charleston, SC, followed by lunch and a historical walking tour of Charleston’s downtown streets/attractions. We need about 5 parent drivers/chaperones to help with transportation that day; you will need a vehicle to transport 4-5 passengers. Cost = $11/person. First come, first serve, but we appreciate any volunteers with our big group this year. More fun activities will be in store, for sure!
