Week of Oct 16-20: Hard at Work

It’s assessment time in our Middle School!  Cycle 1 is almost over, and so is the first quarter. Please make sure your child is bringing home daily math and doing at least 12-15 minutes of independent reading (choice novel or magazine or newspaper!) per night. Students are all creating vocabulary as well as etymology cards to help them bolster word attack skills and make sense out of complex word parts. We have agendas available for any student who is having trouble keeping due dates straight and budgeting time with projects. Remember, we are instilling self-sufficient life skills in each scholar to be productive, independent learners. Sometimes, students must learn the value of hard work vs. hardly working…this first quarter may help your child “refocus” some priorities with independent work time both at school and at home!

We have several exciting events on the near horizon:

Tues 10/24:  Charleston Field Experience:  To Kill A Mockingbird play at the historic Dock Street Theater followed by lunch at Waterfront Park and a  walking tour of some of the city’s key historic sites. PLEASE TRY TO HAVE YOUR SCHOLAR AT SCHOOL THAT MORNING BY 7:35. We would like to leave campus by 7:45 to allow for congestion near Mt. Pleasant/Charleston.

Thurs 10/26:  Want to experience European travel without stress/planning headaches?  It’s possible and affordable!  Come to the Middle School’s arena at 6pm on Thurs. 10/26 to learn more about EF TOUR’s Ancient Mediterranean tour–find out about the itinerary/cost, and get answers to some commonly- asked questions. This initial meeting should take approx. 30 minutes (45 min. max!) and DOOR PRIZES will be awarded!  (No obligation to commit– just come hear about the possibility of making this “dream trip” a reality!) Adult AND children welcome; target age for traveling youth: Any scholar who will be in 7th grade during the 2020-2021 school year. NOTE: Trip is NOT limited to CMCS students; spread the word to family, neighbors, and friends.

Fri 10/27:  HALF DAY FOR SCHOLARS–please make arrangements to pick up your child before lunch and enjoy the day with your little ones!  Halloween Celebration taking place with many events/fun activities for the UE/LE kiddos, including a special Middle School “Not-so-Spooky Room!”
