The Sewing Hour

This past month I offered a four week mini-class after school called The Sewing Hour.  My goal was to introduce students to the craft of sewing with a sewing machine.  It’s a lofty goal when you consider all of the technical skills one must know even before you choose a project to begin!  Students learned names and functions of vital parts of their machine, how to follow the multiple steps to thread the machine needle, where to find the bobbin and set it in place correctly, how to rewind the bobbin when it runs out, and later, how to control the speed of the stitches!  So many things to learn before we even turn the power on!

During the first 4 week Session of The Sewing Hour, the students each chose to make a Chicken Pillow or a Recycled Pet-Food Tote Bag as their class project.

Happy Sewing!
