September Update

Hi Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this holiday weekend!
The children did a great job on the First Great Lesson presentations on Friday.  My regret is that I don’t get to see everyone from my class present with their groups.  I’ve attached some pictures of the kids in different groups doing their presentations.  It was great to see all the students in our school come together to work, learn, and support each other. The focus of this project is to extend our learning after the First Great Lesson. The beautiful added bonus is that the students practice their communication skills, share courtesy and respect, build speaking skills, and create new friendships. I have posted some picture on our class Facebook page and CMCS class page as well. If you would like to be added to our class Facebook page, send me a message with the email address you use for your Facebook page.
This coming week, our class will be participating in MAP testing on Wednesday for Reading Comprehension and Friday for Math.  Please have your child to school on time as we will need to start as close to 8:15 as possible.  We will also be starting in Wordly Wise this week.  Our schedule will run from Friday to Thursday, like last year.  I have a parent volunteer who will be coming in to help kids study, too.
Also this week, all specials classes will begin. Our class has Music on Monday and Art, PE, and Spanish on Wednesday. Be sure to have your child wear their PE uniform on Wednesday. The 5th/6th years have the option to sign-up for Band. If your child chooses to join Band, they will have class at the end of the day either Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday/Friday depending on which instrument they chose to play. It is important for your child to be at school each day until dismissal for these classes to keep up with their practice. Also, each student is expected to keep up with their classwork and assignments even with the addition of time out of the classroom for band.
Reminder, donations for Hurricane Harvey relief can be dropped at the school until Friday, September 8th. Our class has been asked to donate bottled water. Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Have a great week,
