The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, Janurary 5, 2017, with the USDA made it official…we are finally home! The CMCS Grand Hall was packed with families, friends, GCSD officials, politicians and members of the business community. It was a testament to the teamwork and collaboration that allowed us to reach the goal of having a space to call our own. CMCS was honored to have so many USDA representatives there including our guest of honor Vernita F. Dore, USDA Deputy Under Secretary from Washington DC who was appointed to her position by President Obama. Her colleague and friend Michele J. Cardwell, USDA Acting State Director, also addressed the gathered crowd as part of our speaking program. In addition, GCSD Superintendent Dr. Randy Dozier, SC Senator Stephen Goldfinch, and Georgetown County Chamber President and CEO Beth Stedman offered kind and supportive words of praise, appreciation and inspiration.
While there was a lot of emotion conveyed by all of our speakers, perhaps none was more heartfelt and poignant than the words of gratitude from our hero and board chairman Rob Horvath who volunteered countless hours to oversee the entire construction project. Dr. Hunt announced at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony that a bench and tree to shade it will be erected on the grounds to commemorate his service.
