Pumpkin Math

Pumpkin Math is in full swing this week.  It’s a favorite activity each fall for scholars of all ages.  Pumpkin Math is a fun way to practice measurements and calculations.  The students start by splitting up into groups, estimating and then measuring both the circumference and weight of each pumpkin.  Then they get a little messy while scooping out their pumpkins, weighing the “guts” and counting the seeds.  When all of that is complete, the kids fill their pumpkins with water to determine the volume of each pumpkin!  Once all of the measuring and weighing is complete and the results have been graphed, the classes enjoy carving their jack-o-lanterns and roasting all of the seeds!
