Meet the Music Teacher

I am beginning my 27th year teaching.  I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelors of Music Education and also a Masters of Music Education. I taught 3 years in Kentucky before moving to South Carolina in 1994 where I became the Band Director at Andrews High School (and Rosemary Middle School).  In 1998 I accepted the position as Director of Bands at Johnsonville High School where my bands placed in the top 10 best marching bands in South Carolina in class 1-A division with the highest placement being #5 in the State.

While at Johnsonville, my concert bands received consistent ratings of Excellent and Superior at State festivals for Music.  I had the honor of taking the first middle school band that went to state festival and received a rating of Excellent in the history of Johnsonville Middle School.

In 2002, I returned to Andrews to become the Director of Bands for Rosemary Middle School where I have taught for the past 15 years, building a strong middle school band program for the school and community.

I am the father of 2 children, Drew (22) who is a member in the US Army and Raleigh (14) who is currently in the 8th grade at WMS).  I have a cat and a grandpuppy who I care for also.  I enjoy outdoor sports (baseball and basketball), fishing, hiking, bicycling, golfing, as well as many other activities.  My favorite book is “The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway.  The last book I read was from Terry Brooks esteemed collection of the Shannara Series which I have read since attending high school.

I am a 5 time member of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”, Honors which are given from students to a national company where the student recognizes their teacher for the students success.  I have also been named into “Marquis, Who’s Who in America” which is also a national recognized organization.  I play trumpet professionally and have had the honor of playing with such greats as Vincent DeMartino (ret. Centre College/Great American Brass Band Festival), Richard Illman (Michigan State University), Doc Severinsen (former Tonight Show Band Leader), Allen Vizzutti, The Saxons Cornet Band (Civil War Reinactors), Elizabeth ll of England’s Honor Guard Pipers, the Presidents Own, Herald Trumpets (who announce the president, vice president entrance to events) to name a few.  I play consistently through out the Pawleys Island and Georgetown community from churches, Indigo Choral Society 4th of July programs, to weddings and military funerals.

I hope I have been able to provide information to the wonderful parents and staff of the Coastal Montessori Charter School about myself.  I am looking forward to working with your children and the adults in building a strong music and Band program for the Montessori school.  With your support and help, we will accomplish wonderful things.  Thank you for your time in reading this post.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at:
