Weekly Update

Hello families,

Thank you to all the students and families who came to the Upper Elementary musical “Bones”. All of their hard work and practice paid off and the students did an amazing job acting and singing!

This Saturday is our annual Eat Play Love Gala. Our class is hard at work on our auction item and can’t wait to display it at the event! The Gala is always a wonderful evening of donating, celebrating, and having a good time. I will be at the event and I hope to see you all there!

It has come to our attention that some students have been arriving to school in the morning with coffee. This is not allowed. The students may drink water in the classroom and may drink water, juice, or milk with lunch. Please be looking for a policy change soon.

This week we will be starting Wordly Wise back up. The test will continue to be on Thursday mornings. To help ease back into this, we will have time to complete the activities in class this week. Any student who does not complete the activities in class will need to complete them at home. Also, I encourage each child to study with flashcards, make any corrections, and read the story multiple times at home.

Math homework will be back this week! The intent for math homework is to practice concepts we have already been working on in the classroom. Every so often there is something in the workbooks your child may not have been given a lesson on yet. If your child is struggling with any concepts, please let me know. The math work can always be adjusted as needed.

Our Aquarium Field Trip is Friday! We will use this opportunity to learn about SC habitats and inhabitants. Students will work in groups to create a digital report about their region and animals. Please pack a lunch for them to eat after we are finished with the aquarium. I have enough drivers for this trip. Thank you!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. If your child would like to bring in cards or a treat, remember that we have 25 students in the classroom. It is not required to send in anything for Valentine’s Day. Also, please send in a shoebox or empty Kleenex box for your child to create a card box.

The fifth year students will be traveling to Patriot’s Point on February 24 for a 5th grade specific FREE field trip sponsored by the Education Dept. at Patriot’s Point. We will need parent drivers for this trip as well. Look for a permission slip link to come out soon.
