I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. While the students wish it was summer break, that isn’t far away either! Everyone should be rejuvenated and ready to power through the last 6 weeks of school now.
I want to congratulate our entire class for their work on the technology projects based around our trip to the Aquarium a couple of months ago. I will be sending out links to all of the projects next week so everyone can see the work the 6 groups did. You might not realize this, but these projects were 100% student created. The aquarium and I taught the science, but the tech projects were all them. Honestly, I didn’t have the knowledge to help the kids create the projects as we used almost all new software websites to create them. One thing I taught them about technology was how to use the “HELP” button! Five of our six groups took their projects to the
GCSD Tech Fair on April 12 and two of the groups won top honors! The Weebly (create a website) group won First Place in Communication and Collaboration, grades 3 – 5 and the Inklewriter group (create a story) won Second Place in Communication and Collaboration, grades 3 – 5. It was an exciting day for UE 2 as we also won some awards in a Cursive Is Cool writing contest we entered back in March. Liam Steffen won 3rd place in the 6th grade category and Laney, Luke, Emma, and Caroline won Honorable Mentions. This contest was a National contests with hundreds of entries from around the country. Pretty cool!
Here is the calendar of end-of-year testing dates that needs to be shared with you. Please put these dates on your calendar and do your best to ensure your child is well rested and in school for these days. We will, of course, have make-up testing for absences, but in my experience missing a testing day adds to the anxiety of the child.
- MAP Testing Days – Tuesday and Wednesday – April 25 is Math and April 26 is Reading.
- SC Ready End of Year Tests: May 2 and 3 for English Language Arts; May 9 for Math.
- PASS Tests: May 16 for Social Studies; May 18 for Science.
During the next month of testing we will still be having lessons on material that will be on the test and I will be sending a out a little review math homework. This is an important month to finish up our year of studies, and I appreciate your diligence and patience as we work through the last of our curriculum.
Here are the other dates for the calendar for now:
